Yes Force of Nature is a federal EPA registered medical-grade disinfectant and sanitizer. It kills 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, mold and mildew, including Norovirus, Influenza A, Salmonella, MRSA, Staph, Listeria, Pseudomonas, respiratory viruses and the viruses that cause flus, when used as directed on hard non-porous surfaces. The federal EPA has registered Force of Nature for disinfecting and sanitizing hospitals, ICUs, schools, daycares, veterinary clinics and more. The registration number is #93040-1. To secure federal EPA registration, a product is tested using EPA required anti-microbial testing protocols over multiple lots. Suppliers, purity, concentration & processing of all individual ingredients have to be approved, with strict statistical limits on all. State info for IN and CA here.
Force of Nature is on EPA’s List of Disinfectants for Use Against SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19. The EPA has invoked the Emerging Viral Pathogen policy, where disinfectants can be included on List N because they:
1. Demonstrate efficacy against a harder-to-kill virus; or 2. Demonstrate efficacy against another type of human coronavirus similar to SARS-CoV-2. Force of Nature is approved for use against SARS-CoV-2 because it has proven efficacy killing Norovirus, which is a harder-to-kill virus. Force of Nature can be used against COVID-19 when used in accordance with the directions for use against Norovirus on hard non-porous surfaces. Refer to the CDC website for additional information.
Force of Nature is on EPA’s List N, the disinfectants approved for use against SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19. Per the EPA, “EPA expects all products on List N to kill all strains and variants of SARS-CoV-2. Genetic changes to the virus do not impact the efficacy of disinfectants.”
The EPA invoked the Emerging Viral Pathogen policy for the monkeypox virus. Per the EPA, “When rare or novel viruses cause outbreaks of disease, there may be few if any disinfectants that have been tested and registered for use against that specific pathogen. To prepare for situations like these, EPA created the Emerging Viral Pathogen process, a voluntary process which allows disinfectant manufacturers to submit data to EPA demonstrating a product’s efficacy against difficult-to-inactivate viruses.” Because Force of Nature has demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to the monkeypox virus on hard, non-porous surfaces, Force of Nature can be used against monkeypox when used in accordance with the directions for use against Feline Calicivirus surrogate for Norovirus ATCC VR-782 on hard, non-porous surfaces. You can see Force of Nature on the list of disinfectants that the EPA has indicated for use against monkeypox here.
The on-going cost of the all-in-one cleaner you make is 8¢ an oz for subscribers or $1 a bottle. You’ll save up to 80% per oz vs typical cleaners like Windex Glass Cleaner, Formula 409, Seventh Generation Disinfectant Spray, Febreze Air Odor Eliminator, Lysol Disinfectant Spray, Clorox Clean-Up and Scrubbing Bubbles.
Yes, and even though it has no harmful chemicals, Force of Nature has proven in independent 3rd party lab testing to be just as effective as Windex, Clorox Clean Up, Scrubbing Bubbles, Formula 409, Febreze and Resolve. Those lab test results are here. We’ve got you covered for just about any greasy, grimy, sticky, stinky mess that comes your way.
Yes! Force of Nature actually works! It’s a federal EPA registered disinfectant & sanitizer that kills 99.9% of germs, mold and mildew. It’s just as effective as the leading brands with no harmful chemicals. It’s as effective as Formula 409 on grease, Windex on glass, Scrubbing Bubbles on soap scum, Febreze on odors and Resolve on rugs. We know it’s hard to believe that you can convert salt, water & vinegar into such a powerful cleaner & disinfectant, but the Force of Nature technology, called electrolyzed water, has actually existed for years in the industrial space. We’ve sized down the same technology for your countertop & wallet.
Force of Nature has no added fragrances but it does have a light, clean swimming pool scent. The scent is naturally created when salt, water & vinegar are electrolyzed. Hypochlorous acid, the antimicrobial ingredient in Force of Nature, is a type of chlorine (hence the pool scent). Many people don’t know that there are different types of chlorine. Hypochlorous acid is actually the same substance your immune system produces to fight infection. And because it’s so gentle, it’s commonly used in wound healing, eye care & veterinary care products.
Yes Force of Nature is a federal EPA registered medical-grade disinfectant & sanitizer that kills 99.9% of germs, when used as directed on hard non-porous surfaces. It kills respiratory viruses and the viruses that cause flus. State info for IN and CA here.
Nope! Force of Nature is free of VOCs.
No, our reusable bottles do not contain BPA or BPS.
Yes Force of Nature kills viruses and is a federal EPA registered disinfectant & sanitizer that’s registered for use in hospitals, ICUs, schools, daycares and more. It kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria when used as directed on hard non-porous surfaces. Force of Nature is on EPA’s List of Disinfectants for Use Against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). State info for IN and CA here.
Yes – Force of Nature meets surface disinfection requirements for OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standards when used as directed on hard non-porous surfaces.
Force of Nature kills mold & fungus & prevents it from returning. A key thing to know is that because it doesn’t contain any whiteners (like bleach), it won’t remove set in staining on porous surfaces like grout.
Yes Force of Nature kills bacteria and is a federal EPA registered disinfectant & sanitizer that’s registered for use in hospitals, ICUs, schools, daycares and more. It kills 99.9% of bacteria and viruses when used as directed on hard non-porous surfaces. State info for IN and CA here.
Yes! Force of Nature kills 99.9% of germs when used as directed on hard non-porous surfaces, even Salmonella, Norovirus, Listeria, STAPH, MRSA, Pseudomonas & Influenza A when used as directed on hard non-porous surfaces. State info for IN and CA here.
Yes – Force of Nature is Leaping Bunny certified to be cruelty-free.
Yes we’re proud to be certified for both! We’re Green Seal certified for meeting the highest sustainability standards in 4 areas: protecting human health, preserving the climate, ensuring clean water, and minimizing waste. Through our carbon offset projects, we’re certified Carbon Neutral by ClimatePartner.
If you have hard water (> 100ppm), we recommend a water softener, bottled water, or reverse osmosis filtered water instead of tap water. This is because the minerals in the hard water can shorten the life of the appliance.
You should not add any oils to Force of Nature because it interferes with the chemistry & results in reduced efficacy.
Just like bubbles in a carbonated drink, hypochlorous acid starts to dissipate over time. To be absolutely sure Force of Nature is at its optimal disinfecting power, you should use it within 2 weeks. The bottle is 12 oz, vs a typical cleaner which is around 26-32 oz, so most families use about a bottle a week when they use it for all their multi-purpose-purpose cleaning & disinfecting needs (ie replacing bleach, deodorizers, kitchen, bath & glass cleaners). Families who also use it on floors & rugs use even more. Because it has no harmful chemicals, you can dispose of any unused product right down the drain.
Salt, water & vinegar have a nice long shelf life! Our Capsules last 5 years, so feel free to stock up and rest easy.
If you’re on the go and don’t have access to soap and water, you can use Force of Nature to clean your hands. It has no skin allergens or irritants so you don’t need to rinse it off.
Yes – it’s super simple to make. Simply fill the Electrolyzer with regular tap water, squeeze in one Activator Capsule and plug it in. Push the start button and in about 9 minutes, you can pour the solution into the Spray Bottle. Now you’re ready to clean, disinfect & deodorize anywhere the little hands, noses & paws in your house like to be! As with all products, please use as directed.
Whether it’s at home or at work, Force of Nature can be used virtually anywhere for just about any job requiring cleaning, deodorizing or disinfecting. In kitchens or other food prep areas, Force of Nature cleans sticky messes, grease & grime while killing odors & germs like Salmonella when used as directed. Use it on counters (including sealed stone like granite, marble, quartz, wood, laminate), glass, appliances (including on stainless steel), and it’s even gentle enough to use on on highchair trays & cutting boards. On glass & stainless steel, because Force of Nature has no drying accelerants like ammonia or alcohol based cleaners do, wipe with a clean cloth or paper towel until the surface is completely dry. In bathrooms, Force of Nature kills 99.9% of germs when used as directed on hard non-porous surfaces, and also kills odors & removes soap scum. Use it on all your bathroom surfaces including grout, tile, sealed marble, porcelain, glass and high touch areas like doorknobs and faucets. For surfaces where you currently use an abrasive like a scrub brush (for example with soap scum), with Force of Nature you simply use the same brush. Depending on surface porosity & build up, you may need a mild abrasive like baking soda with your scrub brush the 1st few times. At work, it’s great for desks, white boards & chalk boards, high-touch surfaces like door knobs, faucets & light switches, lunch areas, water fountains, and bathrooms. Force of Nature is also great in nurseries and daycares for diaper pails, changing pads, and baby toys. In pet areas, Force of Nature cleans, disinfects & deodorizes stains and odors with no harmful residues or fumes. Use on kitty litter, pet toys, bedding, even pet accidents on rugs. Always 1st test for color-fastness in an inconspicuous spot & let dry before proceeding.
Yes Force of Nature is safe to use on sealed stone. Unlike vinegar, Force of Nature is safe on sealed stone because of the chemistry change that happens when the solution is electrolyzed.
Because Force of Nature doesn’t have whiteners, it won’t remove stains like rust or hard water from porous surfaces. The upside of this is that you can use it on rugs & carpets, where it’s as effective as Resolve, but without harmful chemicals. Always 1st test for color-fastness in an inconspicuous spot & let dry before proceeding. Our lab test results are here.
On hard, non-porous surfaces, first clean the surface of soil or residue so that the solution can come into contact with 100% of the surface. Spray Force of Nature on the surface until it’s thoroughly wet, let sit for 1 minute, then let air dry or wipe the surface with clean cloth or paper towel.
Once filled with water & the contents of 1 Activator Capsule, your Force of Nature will gradually turn from a blinking blue light to a full green light all the way around the base to let you know it’s ready. The appliance senses and adapts to differences in water chemistry and temperature to make sure every batch meets the EPA germ-killing standards. The average cycle time ranges from about 3 to 8 minutes. When the light on the bottom of your Force of Nature appliance is green all the way around the base, the solution is ready to use.
We’re glad you asked because a lot of people don’t know the proper way to use disinfectants and sanitizers (not just Force of Nature)! On hard, non-porous surfaces, first clean the surface of soil or residue so that the solution can come into contact with 100% of the surface. Spray Force of Nature on the surface until it’s thoroughly wet, let sit for 10 minutes, then let air dry or wipe the surface with clean cloth or paper towel. Most people don’t realize that the disinfectants you buy at the store typically have a 10 minute dwell time, and that you need to pre-clean the surface. No matter what disinfectant you use, don’t forget to read the usage instructions carefully.
If you have hard water (> 100ppm), we recommend a water softener, reverse osmosis filtered, or bottled water instead of tap water.  This is because the minerals in the hard water can shorten the life of the appliance.
Yes
Yes – you can use the same sponges, scrub brushes, towels or paper towels you currently use. For cleaning jobs that require an abrasive (like with soap scum), use your regular scrub brush or scrubby sponge. On glass, because Force of Nature has no drying accelerants like ammonia or alcohol based cleaners do, wipe with a clean cloth or paper towel until the surface is completely dry.
Force of Nature doesn’t leave behind the harmful residues that conventional cleaners do. Simply spray the solution on any surface and wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. On glass & stainless steel, because Force of Nature has no drying accelerants like ammonia or alcohol based cleaners do, wipe with a clean cloth or paper towel until the surface is completely dry.

After you’ve made your first bottle of Force of Nature, unplug the base for 30 seconds & then plug it back in. Now you’re ready to make your next batch.
Generally there are two causes for this – the first is that the base may not have recognized the double-click, so it thinks you’re trying to run a new cycle. When it senses the bottle isn’t properly filled for a new cycle, it gives the red error light. The second potential cause is if the appliance was unplugged for an extended period after the cycle completed. In this case, the appliance may not be able to detect when it should start the countdown from, and as a result signals an error.

Yes the Activator Capsules are recyclable and they are recycling code #5.
After each cycle, fill the Electrolyzer bottle half way with tap water, gently shake, then empty. Dry upside down. If you live in a very humid environment, spray some Force of Nature into the rinsed bottle prior to turning it upside down to dry.
So many things! First, Force of Nature starts with only 3 ingredients – water, salt & vinegar. It has no dyes, fragrances, preservatives, surfactants, bleach, alcohol, quats, hydrogen peroxide or any other harmful chemicals. Many natural cleaning products use botanical-sounding ingredients, but many of those can actually be harmful allergens & irritants. Thymol is an example – though it’s derived from thyme oil, it’s a known allergen. Another example is that many “natural cleaners” contain methylisothiazolinone, a preservative linked to allergies, lung, neurological and organ toxicity. About 40% of kids and 30% of adults in the US have asthma or allergies, and the CDC recommends avoiding cleaners with fragrances, bleach and quats around them because of the health risks. We’ve earned the highest possible rating by the Mayo Clinic’s SkinSAFE allergy rating system, we’re the only disinfectant and cleaner to earn the Clean Label Project Purity Award and be recognized by the National Psoriasis Foundation. We’re also very different from a sustainability standpoint. We’re Green Seal Certified for meeting the highest standards in protecting health, preserving the climate, and minimizing waste. Our system eliminates single-use plastic bottles, and with the carbon offset projects we support, we’re certified Carbon Neutral by ClimatePartner. Also, Force of Nature is the only EPA registered sanitizer and disinfectant you can make on your kitchen countertop, so you can make it whenever you need it.
Vinegar has some drawbacks that Force of Nature overcomes due to the chemistry change that the appliance creates. Cleaning with regular vinegar damages stone surfaces including granite, marble, travertine, limestone & onyx, while Force of Nature can be used on sealed stone. Regular vinegar corrodes grout & rubber over time; Force of Nature does not. Vinegar is not an EPA registered disinfectant or sanitizer and doesn’t have the same cleaning efficacy. Force of Nature is just as effective as conventional cleaners including bleach, Formula 409 (on grease), Windex (on glass), Febreze (on odors), Scrubbing Bubbles (on soap scum).
No vinegar does not kill viruses effectively enough to qualify as an EPA registered disinfectant & sanitizer. Once you dilute vinegar as part of a DIY cleaning solution, you’re reducing the virus killing power even further. Force of Nature is a great option for creating an EPA registered disinfectant that kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria when used as directed. The Force of Nature appliances uses electricity to convert vinegar, salt & water into a multi-purpose cleaner and federal EPA registered disinfectant and sanitizer.
No vinegar is not an EPA registered disinfectant. It does not kill germs to the level required by the EPA. Even undiluted vinegar isn’t strong enough to kill MRSA and Staph. When killing 99.9% of germs is important, use Force of Nature, which disinfects and sanitizes, and is EPA registered for use in hospitals, ICUs, schools, daycares, veterinary clinics and more. The Force of Nature appliances uses electricity to change the chemical composition of vinegar, salt & water into a powerful multi-purpose cleaner and federal EPA registered disinfectant and sanitizer.
No, hypochlorous acid is not the same as bleach; it has a different chemical composition than bleach (sodium hypochlorite). The formula for sodium hypochlorite is NaOCl and the formula for hypochlorous acid is HOCl. Hypochlorous acid is the same substance your white blood cells produce to fight infection. And it’s so gentle it’s used in wound healing, eye care and veterinary care products. Bleach is defined as 1) having a pH of 11+ 2) being at a concentration high enough to remove the color from fabric and 3) 99%+ NaOCl; none of these apply to hypochlorous acid. An interesting fact is that you need a lot more bleach to achieve the same anti-microbial power as hypochlorous acid. The order of magnitude varies by microbe, but overall HOCl is a much more efficient antimicrobial than bleach, so you don’t need nearly as much. That’s why it’s used in so many industrial applications where gentleness (on for example on skin, animals, produce) is critical.
Electrolyzed water, the solution that the Force of Nature appliance creates using salt, water & vinegar, is a technology that’s been used in the industrial space for decades. However until now, it required huge equipment accessible only to large companies & institutions because it costs $10,000+. Force of Nature is the first product that allows you to make electrolyzed water at home, right on your countertop.
Because Force of Nature doesn’t contain toxic drying accelerants like alcohol or ammonia-based products do, the trick is to spray then wipe until the surface is 100% dry with a clean dry cloth or paper towel.
Depending on build up & surface porosity, you may need a mild abrasive like baking soda with a scrub brush. Soap scum builds up in layers, so it may take a few applications with your abrasive to remove them.
Spray until surface is saturated thoroughly then wipe with a clean paper towel or sponge. If you’re cleaning a surface where the grease has been cooked on a little, you may need to let Force of Nature sit on the surface for 2 minutes before you wipe it.
Always 1st test in an inconspicuous spot to ensure the dyes used are truly colorfast and wait until the tested area is dry before proceeding. This is because there is wide variety in the types of dyes, fibers and processes for making rugs colorfast. Saturate all the layers that have been soiled until they are soaked, then let dry (don’t rinse).
The first time you use Force of Nature, spray the equipment until it is soaked, then let dry (don’t rinse). That will kill the odor-causing bacteria at its source. For on-going odor control, just spray Force of Nature after each use to prevent new odors from starting.
Always 1st test in an inconspicuous spot to ensure the dyes used are truly colorfast and wait until the tested area is dry before proceeding. This is because there is wide variety in the types of dyes, fibers and processes for making rugs colorfast. Clean up the soil as much as possible with dry paper towels or cloths. Next, spray the surface until it is soaked with Force of Nature, wait for 2 minutes, then use clean paper towels or cloths to wipe up any remaining soil. It’s critical to spray all the layers of the rug that have been soiled. For example you should spray even the under side of the rug if the accident has soaked through. That will stop the odor at its source. Let the surface dry and if any odor remains, go through the process again to ensure all layers of the surface have been saturated with Force of Nature.
Always 1st test in an inconspicuous spot to ensure the dyes used are truly colorfast and wait until the tested area is dry before proceeding. This is because there is wide variety in the types of dyes, fibers and processes for making fabrics and rugs colorfast. Blot the spill, spray Force of Nature, then wipe (repeat if necessary). It cleans as well as Resolve and won’t remove color like bleach does.
To clean these, empty of all liquid, then spray in enough Force of Nature to get all the areas wet. Shake it to get the cleaner into all the nooks & crannies. Let sit for 10 minutes, then shake out any remaining liquid.
On brass and copper, either rinse with water or wipe until it’s thoroughly dry because Force of Nature shouldn’t sit on soft metals over time.
You can see our SDS here.
No, you can put away your gloves & hazmat suit! Force of Nature is gentle enough to use without gloves. Force of Nature has been given the highest rating by SkinSafe, the Mayo Clinic’s rating system for product safety for skin allergies. That evaluation of the Force of Nature ingredients is here.
No for safety & germ-kill efficacy reasons. The chemistry is sensitive enough that even being off by a small percent you could easily make bleach, create a solution that doesn’t meet EPA required germ-kill rates, and/or create a solution without the right shelf life for the disinfecting ingredient. These risks are why the EPA requires the Capsules as part of our approval to sell Force of Nature as a disinfectant.
No, our bottles do not contain BPA or BPS.
You should never use more than 1 capsule at a time. Creating just the right pH can only be done using one capsule and is critical to creating a safe, effective cleaner, disinfectant & deodorizer. Always use as directed.
We attempted to get Force of Nature evaluated & rated by EWG, but EWG stated that their “scoring system is not equipped to fully capture ingredients that would be generated as a result of electrolytic processes within the device. They currently do not have devices rated in the cleaning category. Given the newness of our system it is understandable.” Our Safety Data Sheet is here which has in depth product safety information. We always recommend that families do their own research. Electrolyzed water has been independently evaluated by numerous sources because it has been used in the industrial space for so many years. You can readily find links to this research by searching on electrolyzed water or hypochlorous acid, or starting here.
