FAQs

Q: Does it kill viruses and bacteria?

A: Yes Force of Nature is an EPA registered disinfectant & sanitizer registered for use in hospitals, ICUs, schools, daycares, veterinary clinics and more. It kills 99.9% of germs including Norovirus, Influenza A, Salmonella, MRSA, Staph & Listeria when used as directed.

Q: Does this kill coronavirus? Does it kill the Delta variant?

A: Force of Nature is on EPA’s list N, the disinfectants approved for use against COVID-19. Force of Nature has demonstrated effectiveness against viruses harder to kill than SARS-CoV-2 on hard, non-porous surfaces. Therefore, Force of Nature can be used against COVID-19 when used in accordance with the directions for use against Norovirus on hard non-porous surfaces. EPA expects all products on List N to kill all strains and variants of SARS-CoV-2. EPA Emerging Pathogen Policy.

Q: Do you have a warranty or guarantee?

A: Yes we have both! As long as you use your Force of Nature according to our instructions, it’s covered by a limited one year warranty. We also have a 100% Happiness Guarantee, which means that if you’re not completely satisfied with your Force of Nature Starter Kit or Bundle, you can return it to us within 30 days for a full refund minus the return shipping cost.

Q: Does it have a scent?

A:  Force of Nature has no added fragrances, so it’s perfect for families struggling with asthma and allergies. It has a light swimming pool scent that’s naturally created when salt, water & vinegar are electrolyzed. The scent is from the active ingredient, hypochlorous acid, which is the same active ingredient commonly used in wound, eye & veterinary care products.

Q: Why does the cleaner only last 2 weeks?

A: Just like bubbles in a carbonated drink, hypochlorous acid starts to dissipate over time. To be sure Force of Nature is at its optimal power, you should use it within 2 weeks. The bottle is 12 oz, vs a typical cleaner which is around 26-32 oz. Most families use about a bottle a week when they use it for all their cleaning, disinfecting & deodorizing needs (replacing disinfectants, deodorizers, kitchen, bath & glass cleaners). Families who also use it on floors & rugs use even more. The light ring around the bottom of the Electrolyzer is color coded to let you know when it’s time to make a new batch.

Q: Are your capsules recyclable?

A:  Absolutely! With our Capsules & reusable bottles, you reduce your plastic waste from typical cleaning products by 97%. Force of Nature is Green Seal certified, which means it meets Green Seal’s highest sustainability standards in 4 areas: preserving the climate, ensuring clean water, minimizing waste, and protecting humans.

Q: Can I use it to clean stone? On what other surfaces?

A: Use it to clean virtually any surface – sealed stone including granite, marble & quartz, wood, laminate, stainless steel, glass, grout, tile, porcelain, plastic, rubber & even on high chair trays & cutting boards. Deodorize trash, diaper pails, kitty litter, pet toys & bedding. Clean colorfast rugs (great for pet accidents!), stuffed animals, carseats & strollers. Always test first for color fastness in an inconspicuous spot, let dry before proceeding and don’t use on fabrics labeled “only non-chlorine bleach”. Because Force of Nature has no whiteners like bleach or titanium, it won’t remove set in rust, hard water, or mold stains on porous surfaces. With soap scum, depending on build up & surface porosity, you may need a mild abrasive like baking soda with your scrub brush the first few times. This is because soap scum builds up in layers & can require a few applications to break down. If you’re using Force of Nature on brass or copper, either rinse with water or wipe until it’s thoroughly dry because it shouldn’t sit on soft metals over time.

Q: Has Force of Nature been tested in 3rd party labs?

A: Yes Force of Nature has been tested by 3rd party independent labs for cleaning performance, germ-kill efficacy, ingredient impact on people, and environmental impact. Germ-kill testing and cleaning performance lab test results vs the leading brands are here. You’ll see that Force of Nature kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria and is just as effective as Windex on glass, Formula 409 on grease, Scrubbing Bubbles on soap scum, Febreze on odors, and Resolve on rugs. Force of Nature has also been given the highest rating by the Mayo Clinic’s allergy rating system. We’re also proud to be Green Seal certified for our sustainability leadership. Green Seal certification is awarded to products that meet the highest sustainability standards in 4 areas: protecting humans, preserving the climate, ensuring clean water, and minimizing waste.

Q: Does it work with hard water?

A:  If you have hard water (> 100ppm), please use a water softener, distilled or de-ionized water instead of tap water. This is because the minerals in hard water interfere with the chemistry, making the cleaner less effective, and can shorten the life of your Force of Nature.

Q: How does the cost of Force of Nature compare to other cleaning products?

A:  The on-going cost of the all-in-one multi-purpose cleaner, deodorizer and disinfectant you make is $.09 an ounce (or $.08 an ounce for subscribers), which is up to 80% less per ounce than typical natural cleaners like Clorox Clean-Up, Seventh Generation Disinfectant Spray, Windex Glass Cleaner, Lysol Disinfectant Spray and Scrubbing Bubbles.

Q: How much Force of Nature would I use?

A:  You’d use the same amount of Force of Nature as you use of the products you replace it with. For example if you use it to replace kitchen, bath, glass, floor cleaners, deodorizers and disinfectant sprays, you’d use the same amount of Force of Nature as you do of those products combined.

Q: Why does the cleaner only last 2 weeks?

A: Just like bubbles in a carbonated drink, hypochlorous acid starts to dissipate over time. To be sure Force of Nature is at its optimal disinfecting power, you should use it within 2 weeks. The bottle is 12 oz, vs a typical cleaner which is around 26-32 oz. Most families use about a bottle a week when they use it for all their cleaning & deodorizing needs (replacing kitchen, bath, glass cleaners & deodorizers). Families who also use it on floors & rugs use even more. The light ring around the bottom of the Electrolyzer is color coded to let you know when it’s time to make a new batch.

Q: How do I use it to disinfect or sanitize?

A: We’re glad you asked because a lot of people don’t know the proper way to use disinfectants (not just Force of Nature)! On hard, non-porous surfaces, clean surface of soil or residue so that the disinfectant can come into contact with 100% of the surface. Spray Force of Nature on surface until thoroughly wet. Allow surface to remain wet for 10 minutes. Let dry naturally or wipe surface with clean cloth or towel. Most people don’t realize that the disinfectants you buy at the store typically have a 10 minute dwell time, and that you need to pre-clean the surface. No matter what disinfectant you use, don’t forget to read the usage instructions carefully.

I wanted to wait to review since it’s still early. I spent way more money than I normally would, so excited to enjoy a really powerful cleaner that is also environmentally friendly, so far it has been lackluster. Even after spraying and leaving it on, it didn’t clean well. The sprayer does spray well. I will keep trying it, and hope to amend this.

Hi – We are so sorry you have been disappointed! Some tips to help you get better results: 1) Do you by any chance have hard or well water? If so we recommend distilled or bottled because the minerals interfere with the chemistry. 2) Glass & stainless steel: Because it doesn’t contain any drying accelerants, we recommend spraying then wiping the surface thoroughly with a clean dry cloth or paper towel. 3) Old set in odors: saturate all the layers that have been soiled, then let the item dry. 4) Soap scum: Depending on build up & surface porosity, you might need a mild abrasive like baking soda with a a scrub brush the 1st few times. Hope these help!

I think it’s a great product for eco concious households and those who want to avoid toxic chemicals and fumes. It’s great as a deodorizer and I have faith in it’s disinfecting abilities. It’s wonderful on glass. It also smells light and fresh and doesn’t give me a headache like other products.

However I’m not sold on it as a cleaning agent on dirty surfaces. It requires as much elbow grease as it would using plain water. I know the independent labs have rated it as good as 409 and scrubbing bubbles but in my experience those products work much better than this at cleaning gunk off things.

    • Meghan Jones

Hi – We are sorry you were’t happy with it cleaning gunk! On soap scum depending on build up & surface porosity, we recommend a scrub brush with a mild abrasive like baking soda. Soap scum tends to build up in layers so it can take a few applications to remove it. On grease, we recommend saturating thoroughly vs just a fine mist, and if it’s cooked on, you might need to let it sit a couple of minutes. Hope this helps!

Do not hesistate. Buy this system NOW! I put this on my wishlist for Christmas and received it as a gift from my husband. I love using FoN and use it on everything without worrying that I am contaminating my family’s living space or compromising their health or safety. Smells faintly (and comfortingly) like bleach but does not ruin fabric surfaces. I use it as stain remover on my baby’s clothes, even and it is effective! After frying up some chicken last night, my glass surface stove was grease- and streak-free after being cleaned with FoN. I have weeded out all of the other cleaners in the house that are toxic, ineffective, and downright dangerous for my family’s health and the environment. Thank you, FoN, for providing this product to us! I am in love. My only complaint is the spray bottle. Mine broke so I will be needing to purchase a replacement. But it’s still worth every penny!

  • James

I simply love this product. I’m a real customer who spent my own hard-earned money to get it and I’m so happy I did. I’m contemplating getting a second base station I use it that much. I use this on everything; I particularly love using it in the kitchen. Because I know I can generate as much as I need at any given time, I use it more liberally than I would any other store-bought cleaner. This is a very nice luxury. I have used it on bedding and upholstery, counters, toilets, sinks, carpet, cutting boards, height chairs, trash cans and more. Because of its properties you don’t have to worry about bleaching (I haven’t even noticed fading of any kind on any of the cloth surfaces.) The smell is so faint and agreeable that I have even sprayed it up in the air to deodorize a room without any ill effects. The fine-mist sprayers that come with this product are awesome. I’ve purchased a new bottle since the one that came with it broke pretty shortly. They sell a different version of the bottle online that has a bladder that collapses as you use the solution and keeps out the air. These are great since you can turn the bottle any which way and it will still spray. I highly recommend this product!

  • Leslie

Great product.. cleans well and I love that it’s all natural..light scent.. I use it on everything ..glass, wood, granite, bathtubs and sinks..

  • Jennifer

This is an amazing product. I’ve had mine for a few weeks. Setup was a breeze. The bottles arrived already assembled. All I had to do, was plug in the unit, add tap water and one of the included capsules and voila! The cleaning solution was made right then.

There is absolutely no odor to the cleaning solution and the spray bottle works incredibly well. Better than any other spray bottle I’ve ever used.

Half of one bottle was used to clean my entire house from top to bottom by my cleaning service. They reported (and I observed) that it worked better than just a water and vinegar solution alone and that it was pleasant not having to deal with the vinegar odor. The rest of that bottle has been used to clean up after myself in the kitchen when cooking, clean my dog’s muddy prints off of my floor when he comes inside, and clean up markers from my girls’ art projects.

My favorite part of this product (other than keeping my household free from dangerous chemicals) is that the electronic base displays how long the solution is optimally good for. And yes, if harsh and dangerous chemical preservatives like isothiazolinones are not used solutions, creams, lotions, products, etc. DO expire and they should.

The startup cost of this product is definitely worth it. You receive a lot for your initial investment and purchasing the capsules afterwards is negligible. I actually save money over the long term with this product.

All of my family members (mothers, grandmothers, aunts, etc.) will be receiving a kit (along with beautiful flowers of course) for Mother’s Day.

Absolutely love love love this product. I started cleaning my house yesterday and couldn’t stop. Windows, appliances, kitchen, bathroom, toys, etc. everything came out so clean without any chemicals. Windows streak free, spots on window sils came right out. The best part is that my 3 and 2 yr old LOVED helping and could due to the lack of harmful ingredients.
My husband also has stinky work boots and we’ve been spraying them everynight when he gets home and stink no more!!
Force of nature is amazing. I’ll be recommending to everyone!!

We discovered Force of Nature on Facebook and were intrigued by the simple clean science behind this efficient cleaner. With a toddler and a pet rabbit in the house, and a mom who lives with us who has major allergies, we decided to give it a try. We also have a home that has a lot of engineered wood floor and stone/marble tiles. I am sick of all the different types of “kid friendly” cleaners we have to get. And a lot of these cleaners not only don’t smell all that “natural” they are also not as powerful/efficient in cleaning. After reading the 3rd party lab tests we decided to give it a try and it was amazing. It cuts grease like nothing. Even through it does not have alcohol so we have to wipe it dry to avoid streaks, it is extremely easy to wipe dry! And despite the chlorine smell (some ppl like it, I personally don’t), it does not create the same type of allergic response chlorine does. So it is perfect for our stainless steel stove top. And it is great for windows. It is effective for cleaning toilet seats (we used lysol wipes before they are smelly, and they leave so much liquid and streaks). We used it on our pet rabbit potty area and it does help with odor. It does not take it completely away like it claims but it really removes the general smell in the area. We have yet to test it on stone floors but it is perfect on our marble top.

The only thing I would suggest for improvement is that the spray bottle is a bit tricky to use at first (it takes a few strong squeezes for it to work) but once it works, it is fantastic because it sprays a long and wide angle spray so coverage is great. And it’s sleek to look at. It would be great to have markers to show how much oz so it is easier to measure for mopping floor.

Despite the 2 weeks lifespan for the hypochlorous acid, I am done with the first bottle in about 1.5 weeks. You literally use it for a lot of things and it goes rather quickly so I can’t say it is cheap in the long run but it is safe and efficient.

  • Belinda Seal-Sweet

I really like this item and the fact that I can use it on all surfaces. Works great on my hardwood floors. What I don’t like is the spray bottle. It is more of a pull the trigger and hold method. With arthritis in my hands, I find it really hard to pull the trigger – sometimes having to use both hands. For me it is really difficult to use. The spray area is really narrow.

  • Colleen Eyges

This product is fantastic! Especially since it can be used on multiple surfaces. I use it to clean my whole house,- the kitchen, bathrooms and even the floors. And, it definitely got rid of the smell in my teenage boys shoes which I was starting to think was impossible. I even keep the small travel size bottle in my pocket book to sanitize my hands. I feel so much better knowing that I am not exposing my family (and pets) to toxic chemicals and spreading them all over my house. I highly recommend Force of Nature to everyone looking for a safe alternative to chemical cleaners.

  • Emily

I have been using this product for several weeks and I love it. I love the smell and effectiveness. What I’m not wild about is the spray bottle. It has clogged many times and requires unscrewing the top and readjusting way too often. Not sure how to deal with this problem and would love feedback.

    • Meghan Jones

Hi! We have a new sprayer on its way to you. We hope you like it much better.

  • Libby

Force of Nature has replaced every cleaner in our cupboard except laundry detergent and Windex ( which we use for glass windows and to kill ant infestations during the rainy season in NorCal. Sooo I have room for wrapping paper and ribbon and flower vases of all sizes closer to our utility sink — it’s a no brainer purchase – congrats !

    • Meghan Jones

Hi – I checked & although Force of Nature is as effective as Windex, it won’t kill your ants like ammonia! But we’re glad you are liking it!
